Los Angeles Union Station
UNION STATION

Union Station / El Pueblo / Little Tokyo / Civic Center—neighborhoods at the heart of the city that prove LA belongs to everyone.

Union Station / El Pueblo / Little Tokyo / Civic Center has gone by many names, but it began as the early village of Yang-na, home of the Tongva Indians. The modest village was subsequently settled by Spaniards, Mexicans, Chinese, Japanese, Italians, Africans, and Portuguese, just to name a few. In 1781 the Spanish founded the settlement “El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de Los Angeles,” which gave its name to the city we know today. This walk is about discovering the stories of the different groups of people who all found a home here.

Angels Walk Union Station/El Pueblo/Little Tokyo/Civic Center will take you through historically and architecturally-rich landmarks like El Pueblo’s Pico House, the Art Deco LA Times building, and Union Station. This walk will also introduce you to some of Los Angeles’ most important civic buildings, like City Hall and the Roybal Federal Building. Learn about the long history of Japanese Americans at the Japanese American National Museum, and explore contemporary art right next door at The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA.
